Sri Lanka: Ancient Capitals, Tea Highlands & Wildlife — 11 Days
From Anuradhapura's archaeological sites through Kandy's highlands to Yala National Park, traversing six UNESCO World Heritage Sites by road, rail, and jeep safari.
This 11-day itinerary crosses Sri Lanka's central cultural and natural zones, moving between the island's major Buddhist archaeological sites, tea-growing regions, and wildlife reserves. The route connects Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa—both seats of ancient kingdoms—with Kandy's Temple of the Tooth, the colonial hill station of Nuwara Eliya, and the wildlife habitats of Yala and Minneriya National Parks. A scenic narrow-gauge railway connects the highlands to the south; most transfers occur by road. The pacing avoids extended coastal stays in favour of inland heritage and natural history. Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport and departure from Colombo bookend the trip. All accommodation and local ground transport are included; some activities (whale-watching, certain optional excursions) may vary by season and availability.
