Pikey Peak Trek — 7 Days in Solu-Khumbu

Alpine ridge walk from Dhap to Pikey Peak (4,065m) with views of Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga

The Pikey Peak Trek follows a moderate ridge route through the Solu-Khumbu region of eastern Nepal, ascending to 4,065 meters over seven days. Unlike the congested Everest Base Camp corridor, this route draws far fewer trekkers, passing instead through pine and rhododendron forest, terraced farmland, and Sherpa and Tamang villages where the rhythm of subsistence agriculture remains visible. The trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Dhap and concludes at Pikey Peak's summit ridge, where clear-weather days reveal an unobstructed vista of the high Himalayan wall — Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga all appear on the same horizon. The route is well-marked and stays below the altitude-sickness threshold for most trekkers with basic fitness. Accommodation throughout is in small tea-house lodges run by local families; meals are provided by the lodge operators. An English-speaking local guide accompanies the trek.

Highlights

  • Summit of Pikey Peak at 4,065 meters — views across to Mount Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga on clear days
  • Sunrise from Pikey Peak's ridge — the first light crosses the snow-capped peaks and illuminates the valleys below
  • Pine and rhododendron forest sections — dense canopy with seasonal blooms that open between March and May
  • Terraced farmland and agricultural villages — the route descends through working fields tended by local farmers
  • Sherpa and Tamang settlements — villages including Junbesi and Phaplu, where you can observe local daily routines and speak with residents
  • Low-traffic ridge walking — substantially fewer trekkers than the main Everest region routes
  • Gradual elevation gain over 7 days — no extreme altitude jumps; suitable for trekkers with moderate fitness and no prior high-altitude experience
