Northern Thailand: Temple, Trail & Jungle — 14 Days

Bangkok to Chiang Mai through Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Pai — trekking, elephant sanctuaries, and jungle adventure

This 14-day itinerary moves through northern Thailand's distinct geographies and cultures, beginning in Bangkok and concluding in Chiang Mai. The route connects the former capital of Ayutthaya—where ancient ruins still occupy residential neighborhoods—with the hill-tribe villages accessible by trekking and bamboo raft north of Chiang Mai. Between these anchors lie the Erawan Waterfalls near Kanchanaburi, the small town of Pai with its caves and natural hot springs, and direct encounters with working elephants at a sanctuary. The itinerary includes overland and rail travel, full days of physical activity (trekking, zip-lining, cycling), quieter stretches for swimming and local conversation, and structured learning—a cooking class in Chiang Mai, observation of elephant behavior, and overnight stays in hill-tribe homestays. Pacing alternates between effort and rest, with nights in hotels, on trains, and in village accommodations.
