Himachal Pradesh: Kullu to Bir Billing — Rafting, Cycling & Trekking — 4 Days

Four days combining whitewater rafting on the Beas River, downhill cycling through deodar forests, and high-altitude trekking to the Billing paragliding site at 8,000 feet.

This four-day itinerary moves through Himachal Pradesh's river valleys and mountain terrain, combining three distinct activities across different elevations. The route begins with whitewater rafting on Grade II and III rapids of the Beas River near Kullu, continues with a 20-kilometer downhill cycle ride through the Uri River valley to a trout farm in Badagram, and culminates in a 10-kilometer trek from Badagram to Billing—a high-altitude plateau known for paragliding operations. Accommodation is provided in campsites throughout, with a professional guide, equipment, and meals included. The final day offers a choice between paragliding from Billing or a descent trek to Bir.

Day by day

1Arrival at Kullu and Beas River RaftingKullu · Beas River · campsite
Arrival at Kullu leads to check-in at the campsite. Following breakfast, the day's primary activity is a rafting session on the Beas River. The river section features Grade II and III rapids—moderate difficulty suitable for both novice and experienced paddlers. Before boarding the inflatable raft, participants receive instruction on equipment (paddles, life jackets, helmets) and paddling technique, including how to respond to waves and navigate the current. The guide and trained rescuers accompany the group throughout. The physical sensation of controlling the raft against the river's flow and spray forms the core of the experience. After the activity, the group returns to the campsite for an evening by bonfire, followed by dinner and overnight accommodation in tents.
2Drive to Barot and Cycling to BadagramBarot · Badagram · Kullu
An early departure from Kullu allows time to witness sunrise over the Himalayas before breakfast. The 133-kilometer drive to Barot follows winding mountain roads through numerous villages, above valleys, along rivers, and through dense deodar forests. Barot sits at approximately 6,000 feet on the banks of the Uri River. Upon arrival, a 20-kilometer downhill cycling route begins, descending through fragrant deodar forests to Badagram, where a trout farm marks the cycling destination. The cool mountain air and natural vistas accompany the ride. Following the cycling activity, transfer to the campsite near Badagram for overnight accommodation.
3Trek from Badagram to BillingBadagram to Billing · Billing · tribal villages
After warming up and preparation, the trek from Badagram to Billing begins. The 10-kilometer route is predominantly uphill, ascending to Billing at approximately 8,000 feet elevation. The terrain transitions through cedar forests that gradually shift to fir and spruce as altitude increases. Along the route, the trek passes through several tribal villages, providing views of local daily life and traditional settlement patterns. Upon reaching Billing, the group transfers to the campsite. Local refreshment options (tea and Maggi) are available at independent expense.
4Billing to Bir — Paragliding or TrekkingBilling to Bir · Billing · Bir
Following breakfast, participants choose between two activities. Paragliding from Billing involves instruction on navigation techniques before launching from the take-off site, with the Himalayan landscape visible below and across the horizon. Alternatively, those declining paragliding undertake a 14-kilometer trek from Billing to Bir, which involves primarily downhill walking and is less strenuous than the previous day's ascent. This descent route shows a marked change in vegetation, with coniferous forests giving way to deciduous trees as elevation decreases. Upon arrival in Bir, the itinerary concludes.
