Chinggis Khaan Statue & Terelj National Park — Day Tour from Ulaanbaatar

60 kilometers northeast to the world's tallest equestrian statue, then into Terelj's rock formations, meditation center, and nomadic households — one day from the capital

A single day tour goes from Ulaanbaatar to the Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue complex, located 60 kilometers from the city. The statue faces east toward the birthplace of Chinggis Khaan, one of the most prominent figures in Mongolian and World history. From there, the route continues into Terelj National Park, 70 kilometers north of the capital, where rocky outcrops, a working meditation center, and a local nomadic family household anchor the afternoon. Horse riding and trekking fill the day's activity; wildlife including deer, foxes, wolves, and boars inhabit the park's northern reaches. The entire loop returns to Ulaanbaatar by late afternoon.

Meet your local guide and driver in Ulaanbaatar for the drive northeast. The first stop is the Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue complex, located 60 kilometers from the city center. The equestrian statue is the world's tallest; it faces east, toward Chinggis Khaan's birthplace, and also honors his mother, Oelun, whose memorial complex is being built nearby. Ascend to the top of the statue for views across the surrounding steppe. Continue to Terelj National Park, arriving by midday. Lunch is served at a local ger camp within the park. Afterward, visit Turtle Rock, the park's signature natural rock formation, where a brief stop allows photographs and a closer look at the weathered stone. Proceed to Ariyapala meditation center, established after religious freedom was restored in Mongolia during the 1990s. A short trek around the center's grounds offers a quiet contrast to the morning's activity. Meet with a local nomadic family to observe how traditional herding life persists alongside modern times, followed by short horse riding through the park's grassland. Return to Ulaanbaatar in the late afternoon.
