Central Mongolia: Kharkhorin, Khustai & Terelj — 7 Days

A journey across the Mongol heartland, from the empire's ancient capital through national parks where wild horses roam, ending in Ulaanbaatar — 7 days, winter-feasible.

Central Mongolia holds the physical and cultural core of the Mongol world. This itinerary moves through the Orkhon Valley, where the capital of Kharkhorin once stood, then into two of the country's primary protected areas: Khustai National Park, home to the reintroduced Takhi (Przewalsky horses), and Terelj, with its distinctive rock formations and nomadic households. The route includes stays in traditional ger camps and ends with a structured city tour of Ulaanbaatar, covering its Buddhist and Soviet-era monuments. Winter travel is viable, though conditions will be cold and daylight brief.
